As Phil says, he “grew up in a family that was middle class on a good day.” They lived paycheck to paycheck. His mom was a secretary, and his dad never graduated from high school and took any job that he thought could help him support his family.
But back then, we had leaders who had the backs of working families like the Murphys.
Unlike Governor Christie, they believed in the power of high-quality public schools to give kids a shot at a better future.
Phil put himself through college and led a successful business career. Every step of the way, from working with Howard Dean and President Obama to leading charities that help troubled teens and domestic abuse survivors, Phil has worked to help others climb the ladder of opportunity.
And now Phil is running for governor to lift up all New Jersey families with a real progressive plan that will help create better jobs, higher wages, and equal pay for equal work.
